The Aardvark Blog

Wow autumn is really busy
Looking at my Blog listing I realise that a couple of weeks have gone by since my last blog at the end of August. Believe me when I say that the Aardvark's have not been idle since then.
A quick precis of activitity would be as follows: two house clearances plus numerous book calls to the bookshop; literally thousands of visitors to the bookshop - August turned out to be our busiest month in the shop since we started; a number of parties visiting the café, as well as lots of individuals; a book launch for Katy Moran ( our very own bookshop Katy who has worked in Aardvark for many years) and her latest novel 'Wicked by Design' (available from all good bookshops including signed copies at Aardvark Books); a very successful exhibition opening for our H.Art Exhibition - 'Gordon Crosby:The Art of the Pot; finally we are now 2/3rds of the way through this year's incredibly busy Ludlow Food Festival.
Next weekend we will be the bookshop in residence at the Abergavenny Festival and look forward to seeing you if you are planning to visit that fantastic event.
In between times I have been trying to process many of the thousands of books which we have bought this year and which are sitting in our warehouse unattended. I don't think that I have ever purchased so many books, but such have been the number of visitors coming to the shop that the shelves do not look to be groaning too badly (once large piles appear on the floor I start to panic somewhat).
Running a bookshop is a constant revelation and I have been delighted by the many conversations I have had with customers, new and old, this summer. Such a diverse group of people visit the Welsh Marches, and increasingly people are travelling to the area specifically to visit Aardvark Books. If you are reading this blog and haven't been to see us please do come. If nothing else we can promise you a warm welcome and some of the most delicious home-made cake you have ever tasted.
