Fantastic Iceland; Countdown to Food Fair
Yesterday we launched the Iceland exhibition, and despite considerable competition from the wonderful Shobdon Food and Flying Festival, we had a good turnout and a number of sales. Fire and Ice: Iceland Seen and Unseen is one of Aardvaark's most unusual exhibtions, and I confess that I was not at all sure how it would come together. In reality it is a fantastic show, and also in a strange way one of our most commercially appealing. The wonderful sculptures by Andrew Eastwood and Shannon Donovan really highlight different aspects of the people and fauna, whilst Diana Nuttall's paintings show the landscape in different moods and aspects.
The show is on for two weeks and I would very much recommend a visit.
But now that Iceland is launched, all our attention is turning to the Food Fair. Fantastic news that I can confirm here is that Mirabel Osler - veteran food and gardening writer - will be opening the 8th Mortimer Country Food Fair. Mirabel is perhaps best known for her wonderful book 'A Gentle Plea for Chaos', in which she laid out the philosophy she has used in her Shropshire garden.
A decade ago, when already at an age when many have hung up their pen, she was voted Garden writer of the year by here peers. Bloomsbury have reprinted all of her books, and she has continued writing, particularly for HORTUS magazine ( based at the sublime Bryans Ground a few miles from Aardvark Books, and currently open for its short summer season).
Lists of exhibitors are going up on the website as we speak and I am convinced that this will be our best food fair ever !
