People say I'm a dreamer
Back in to the shop today, after having had a fantastic day off yesterday fixing my hi-fi system and pulling the ivy out from our house's gutters and roof tiles. I have been complaining about the sound on the hi-fi for a couple of weeks now and by pulling everything out I discovered that firstly one of the plugs had come half out from the back of the amp and that secondly I had miswired the speakers when we moved in thirteen years ago.
R and I were talking about how difficult it is to run arts festivals and actually pay people who work at them, and I was dreaming of what I want to do here when the plague time comes to an end. I will have over a year's worth of creativity to unleash and it is going to be fab I can promise you. (Eek! says Ethel)
Having pushed the plug in and rewired the speakers the sound is now fantastic and I celebrated by listening to a ton of music - including Jackie McLean's Bluesnik, Jain's Aanaka , the Last Time Out by Dave Brubeck and a ton of stuff besides. So great to have got rid of the murkiness (if only it were as easy to rid the country of the rest of its murkiness).
All the stuff about CV is so depressing that I am not going to comment on it. Also sad, the news from out of the Hay Festival. Such a longstanding force for good in the world and something I was looking forward to returning to.
Here we continue to sell and list tons of books and I am about to put through a big re-order on some of the new titles we took in at the beginning of the month. In the shop people are buying an eclectic range of stuff and this week has been busier than I expected: actually, busier than it usually is at this time of year. It is weird that some of our Welsh customers who live only a few miles away are now locked down for two weeks, and I hope that it turns out to be worth it.
So best wishes to all Aardvark friends wherever you are. I am sure of little, but I do believe that every winter must end, including this one.
