So long 2021, and hello 2022
So long 2021, and hello 2022
After another incredibly post-Christmas day in the bookshop Ethel and I are sorting out the kitchen, trying to cash up and working through any online orders that have come in since this morning when Royal Mail picked up our parcels early.
What an incredibly busy end to one of the strangest years I can remember.
Alongside the sadness of losing some longstanding customers, friends and relatives, we have had the joy of so many people discovering Aardvark - both in person and online - for the first time. Today a customer came in who had heard me talk at the Borderlines Film Festival in 2019 and had been meaning to come in ever since (and had also become a Borderlines sponsor in part because of my talk).
With a few glimmers of light breaking through the Covid gloom I am feeling very positive for 2022 and whilst we may not be able to do everything we would like, I think we will certainly be doing more than we have been able to do for the last two years.
So let us raise a glass to books, the friendship of book lovers, to staycationers and locals, to art, to music and to good companionship. May these endure and bring inspiration and love to all.
