Borderlines Begins with a Flourish, London Book Fair, New Aardvarkistas
Spent last night at the Courtyard for the official opening Gala for this year's Borderlines. The Gala screening of 'Everybody Knows' was packed and it was lovely to hear from Richard and Naomi how well ticket sales are going for this year's festival. The film itself is a tour de force with two wonderful performances at its heart by Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz. Are there two more watchable actors on the planet working today?
Next Saturday on the 9th of March at the Courtyard in Hereford, Aardvark is sponsoring the Premiere of 'White Crow' a new film by David Hare and Ralph Fiennes. Last night when I checked they were nearly down to single figures in remaining tickets so if you would like to see this amazing new film about Nureyev before everyone else, you need to book now.
Now that March has started, our attention turns to London Book Fair. Ethel Aardvark will be attending the publisher sessions and indeed the whole Booksellers Association events programme, and as usual we will be on the look out for fantastic new books for the shop. London is one of the three or four largest book fairs on the planet and the buzz of authors and publishers is always terrific.
Last week we had a fantastic meeting with the Abergavenny Food Festival team in which they highlighted their plans for this year's festival. They are not yet formally announcing their line-up but from what they told us it will be one of the best festival lineups ever. More details as we can release them.
Finally this week saw the departure of Eleanor to go travelling and the first day of Jenny who will form our new café team with Annie. Eleanor has been a fantastic member of the team and a joy to work with, and we are hoping that she may come back to help us out in the summer if she is not off interning or travelling. Make sure you introduce yourself to Jenny when you are next in the shop.
