Countdown to shop on website
Off to the Visual Works our web developers for a run through of the shopping basket on our site. One of the final stages to get done before the site can finally go live. A bit more tweaking to do on some of the pages, but we are basically now there. Site should finally finally be up and running in about two weeks. Apologies to any-one who I have been promising a live site to since July.
On other news I went out and bought a small portion of books yesterday from a house in the hills above Church Stretton. This was the first seller to find us entirely through the new website, so I hope that it will be one of the first of many. The books belonged to a couple who had been self-sufficiency pioneers, and who had lived for the most part on what they grew themselves. Perhaps the greatest part of this job is the chance to learn about people's lives, and to celebrate their tastes and ideas. Most of the books were not for us, so I dropped them off for the sellers at the Severn Valley Hospice shop in Craven Arms. Since their father died of cancer it could not be more appropriate. In the course of the year we give many thousands of books to the two local hospices St Michaels and the Severn Valley. It is a small part of what we do to be a good community business. There is no direct benefit to us, but I like to think that the values from which such practices spring, help to explain the affection in which Aardvark is held by many of our regulars.
Strange damp but warm day has left me in two minds as to whether or not to light the woodburner. I decided to do so if only to make the shop seem more cheerful. Not that we need cheering because Catherine has just brought in a huge amount of cake for the weekend. We now have take away boxes, so if you are passing and need a hit of home-made cake we can oblige you.
