Look to my coming at first light on the 5th day
Just got the news of the Georgia result, and immediately I thought of the scene in 'The Two Towers' film when Gandalf tells Aragorn to look out for him and they eventually ride out of Helms Deep with the great horn sounding.Yes, I know it's the fourth day not the fifth day but come on, I have to be allowed a little artistic license.
Sadly I just looked it up in a very battered first edition of the Two Towers which I have given to a member of staff for her young son as it is too beaten up for sale, and the line is not in the book. But for once, I think Jackson improved on Tolkien as it is the phrase and the scene from all of the films that has stayed with me. We truly need to ride out into the light, and when the Covid nightmare is over we need to strengthen our institutions and freedoms, work on our alliances and do something about some of the glaring disparities in our societies that Covid has shown up.
Over in America once the election is over the country badly needs a period of healing. As Isaiah put it: 'The wolf shall live with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling together' and frankly I don't care which order this happens in, as long as Ethel puts it up on Instagram..
I've been really heartened by the launch of Bookshop.org and if you haven't looked at it I recommend that you do so. Off the back of our recommendation they have now sold 40 copies of the 'The LIttle Paris Bookshop' and 10 copies of 'Enchanted April' amongst other sales. It's a great site and it deserves to succeed.
Here we continue to sell online - orders have gone a bit quiet the last couple of days during the beginnings of lockdown/US elections so do have a look on our site for the latest listings. Am really looking forward to Christmas, and only wish we could hold our usual Xmas events but lets hope we can roar back next year bigger and better.
