Science Fiction; change is afoot
Science Fiction; change is afoot
I have just finished putting on 50 science fiction titles, and am about to break for a well deserved sandwich. Sci-fi has always been one of our most popular fiction categories, and the difficulty of getting earlier volumes in some of the long series that sci-fi authors go in for, continues to make the shelves some of our most visited.
The sun has been shining since I arrived in the bookshop just after 9am today, but it has taken some time for it to have an effect on the temperature. Fortunately the woodburner has been roaring since I arrived, and I have managed to keep the bookshop at a reasonable heat (always difficult in a building as large as ours).
Everything seems to be in place for the Valentine's Event next Saturday, and I am looking forward to getting our first event of the year underway. With Catherine leaving us in April we are starting to receive CV's and expressions of interest - some of them from readers of this blog. April is in a way a perfect time for her to go, I think, as we start the month by launching one of our most interesting exhibitions, "Paper Wraps Stone" and then having a really compelling Easter Garden Event with a triple book launch iwth authors, Noel Kingsbury, Claire Austin and Kim Hurst. If you are interested in working for Aardvark Books please send in your CV and we will let you know whether we will interview you in March.
Also in April we are having a small ceremony to mark the year anniversary of the death of my great friend and business partner Edward Tobin. The event will be on Good Friday Morning, and all are welcome. Needless to say there will be a glass or two to go with it - how could it be otherwise for an event in which Edward is involved.
