Water, water everywhere ...
Water, water everywhere ...
After last year when we suffered the great freeze from November to April, this year the heaven's keep opening and we are at the mercy of what seems like endless rain.
Needless to say that Aardvark is open as usual, although if you are coming from Leominster direction it would be worth going via Shobdon and Lingen this morning if you are in an ordinary car as there are a couple of big puddles. The road is currently closed between here and Leintwardine also, but the waters are subsiding quite quickly and I would hope that that will be open again by midday. If not it is possible to divert through Clungunford, Bedstone and Bucknell as we have had customers in this morning from that direction who say that it is ok.
Well enough of metereological talk. Onto book matters we recently bought a couple of decent medium sized packets of books covering the areas of Railways, local interest ( Shropshire, Herefordshire and Radnorshire ) and art and art tuition. We have also now finished processing the Professor Joan Rees library of English literature books and these are all now out on tables upstairs and have been selling very well, both through the shop and online.
Figures from January were quite encouraging and the shop and café were both up on our totals last year, helped by our first ever sale at the end of January. Meanwhile our first orders from this website are starting to come in, and I feel generally positive for 2014 in the bookshop. We are nearly full with stalls for the Valentine's market on the 15th of February, but if you would like to exhibit there are still a few spaces left !
