First week without Catherine; Maps Exhibition bonus; Brocante Update
As the first week without the incredible Catherine draws to a close, we are just starting to find our feet, thanks to some incredibly hard work from new lags Hilary and Katy and our regulars Paul, Holly and Sarah. The transition was never going to be easy, and I marvel afresh at the amount of work that Catherine got through in a day. With the exception of one minor snaffoo which I found out this morning and which was easily corrected, all has gone along relatively smoothly. The first cakes from Dawn have come in and been consumed, and as I look at the café counter this morning there is a delicious looking Victoria Sandwich, which she brought in a minute ago, just waiting to be broached. No doubt there are more problems waiting to emerge, but as a wise man once said to me long ago, between people of good will all things are possible.
Almost all the items are now back from the framers and photographer for the map exhibition, and I have just started to pull everything together. In terms of the number and variety of maps, this exhibition is our biggest ever and I am at the stage when I am starting to feel a little daunted. Paul put the boards in place on Thursday and we will start the hang next Monday. Fingers crossed, that I will be able to do justice to the material that has been assembled. If you are interested in maps and/or history please do come for the opening next Saturday the 2nd of May at 11am.
The exhibition was to be opened by Dominic Harbour from Hereford Cathedral, who was going to talk about the world famous Mappa Mundi. Unfortunately we have had to postpone Dominic's visit and we are now going to enjoy his talk on the last Saturday of the exhibition on the 16th of May at 11am. The talk is free, but we would ask you to book tickets.
Stalls applications for the May Brocante on Monday 25th of May have come in thick and fast this week and we are filling up nicely. There is still time for you to book a stall at the bargain price of £8 for a space and an extra £3 if you require a table as well. Let us know when booking if you can set up on the Sunday before.
