New Carpet, Change, the Year Ahead
New Carpet, Change, the Year Ahead
Today is extremely exciting as we are finally fitting our new carpet in the front room. Over the years we have had a lot of problems with the concrete floor in the entrance room ( a lasting legacy from the speed with which we moved into the building ), and we have tried a number of ways of curing the problems to no avail.
After some head scratching we have decided to carpet the whole area with a hardwearing commercial cord carpet - something of an additional headache to keep clean, but a big improvement on the dust problems that we have at the moment from detriorating concrete. Mark and his team are hard at work this morning and they assure us that they will be finished today. In the meantime we are open, but if you come to the shop today you will need to come in through the side entrance.
2015 has continued the pattern of change from last year, and yesterday we learnt that we will be losing our fantastic colleague Catherine from the middle of April. Catherine has worked here for over 7 years and has been a big part of everything that we have achieved over that period. We will miss her greatly. Fortunately we have already found a possible replacement as cake supplier to the Aardvark Café, but we will be looking to recruit a new person to work in the bookshop from early April. Candidates need to have the usual qualities - honest, hardworking, reliable - preferably have some bookshop experience, be able to work in the Café, and have a good grasp of computers, IT and business processes, and have a good memory. Catherine's shoes will be very hard to fill, but if you know of some-one suitable please ask them to email CV's to us at aardvaark@btconnect.com. We will be publishing a more detailed job advertisement shortly.
Finally we have some absolutely fantastic events this year, and our new programme is out and available on the website. First up will be the Valentine's event and we will have both Jill Alford's superb jewellery stall and some of Sue Gilmour's wonderful responsibly-sourced and beautifully-wrapped chocolate bars. Washed down with a complimentary glass of Prosecco, together with amazing Argentine guitar music from Gareth Rees-Roberts, what could be better? - and if you bring the kids they will be occupied by free craft sessions in the BookBurrow with Kate Morgan-Clare, too!
