Vide Grenier Excitement, David Evans, Jill Alford Sale, More changes
Lots of calls about the Vide Grenier tomorrow - and quite a few people coming in to thinking that it was on either yesterday or today. Just to confirm the Vide Grenier is Bank Holiday Monday, it starts at 9.00am and the music from the Vintage Jazz Revival will be on in the middle of the day.
Sad news last week of the deat of David Evans author of 'Dawdling in the Dale' and other titles which contained photographs of the area from the end of the 19th century until the middle of the last century. David was a very special man, and we did a number of promotional events with him here at Aardvark. He will be sorely missed.
Unfortunately I was somewhat tethered to the bookshop yesterday as it was surprisingly busy ( given the weather and the wealth of other things on), but my spies tell me that the one day sale for the Air Ambulance Service in memory of Jill Alford went very well. Many thanks to all who came, and all who helped to publicise it. I will let every-one know the final total raised as soon as I am told it.
Meanwhile the autumn will bring more changes to the bookshop. Over the summer the Aardvark team have made quite a few changes to the arrangement of books on the upper story, and it seems to me that it is now much easier for customers to find what they are looking for. We have one more project in mind - the long delayed splitting of history into three categories - and then I think we will call a halt ( too much change is a bit unnerving). Alongside physical changes in the shop, we will also be experiencing personnel changes also. With one member of staff going on maternity leave we are looking to recruit an online selling/bookshop co-ordinator, and we are also looking for some-one permanent in the café.
We will be posting job descriptions to the website next week, and if you are interested in working at Aardvark please send in a CV and covering letter.
