October Brocante, Frankfurt update, Winter Event
October Brocante, Frankfurt update, Winter Event
After a few frenzied days we managed to get everything ready for today's Brocante/Flea Market ( many thanks to Paul and the team), and exhibitors are all set up and the first customers are starting to arrive ( notwithstanding that we don't open for half an hour). This does mean that we had to curtail putting through the new Frankfurt stock, so it will be all hands to the pump next week to get everything out and on the shelves.
It is always difficult to judge the health of the booktrade from a single fair, but from my conversations with publishers this year's fair seems to have been a success and I am therefore expecting another solid year for the trade ( notwithstanding the wider economic clouds on the horizon). It would seem that in times of uncertainty books remain a great source of solice and information and the incredible range of titles on show at the fair is never less than breathtaking.
Notwithstanding today's event we have also been thinking about next month's event - the Winter Event - which marks the start of the Christmas season for us each year. It is a return for the Trevor Davies trio, this time augmented by his wonderful vibes player. The combination of guitar and vibes is a truly magical sound - augmented as ever by Dane on the Bass. Also here for the day will be Bill Sewell who is the supremo behind the wonderful All Saints Café in Hereford and also author of a number of cook books. Bill will be bringing food to taste and buy and talking about his latest batch of recipes.
But to come back to today, what could be better than enjoying a croissant whilst searching through 30 stalls of the best bric a brac and collectibles. A treat for all the familiy, with some of the best coffee in the world to go with it ( we have a new supply of both Kenyan Blue Mountain and Brazillian coffee just arrived).
