History is not Bunk ( it's official)
Alongside all the planning for next saturday's Mortimer Country Food Fair, I have been off buying lots and lots of academic history books, which I am now starting to process. Every subject under the sun, and all at at least half the publisher's original price ( which is to be fair often fairly stratospheric).
Academic books are amongst our most popular titles at Aardvark, and I was not surprised that an obscure book on the battle of Kinsale sold almost as soon as I listed it on-line. When dealing with academic titles you just never know what will sell, but almost everything does sell eventually. This last week has been very hot here ( particularly on Wednesday), and customers have been drinking the cold drinks as if they had spent a month in the desert. One of their favourites is the locally made Tickmore organic apple juice - what could be more refreshing on a hot day.
Whilst I have been dealing with matters historical, Sarah and Carolyn have been working very hard on the arrangements for next Saturday's food fair. Sam has been out and about putting out signs ( not all of which have been removed by Herefordshire Council's employees). The fair is looking really good, and we are very much looking forward to it getting under way. After that our thoughts will turn to the visit of the ECWS in the middle weekend of August. The summer is always so busy, that it is hard to ride each wave of activity, but it is such a pleasure to see the area fill up with visitors - many of whom are visiting the Marches for the first time. This weekend there are several gardens open locally for the National Garden Scheme. Don't miss the wonderful garden at Upper Buckton, and if you are feeling like a whole day of gardens you could combine seeing Upper Buckton, with a visit to the magical Bryan's Ground at Stapleton just outside Presteigne ( only a few miles from here as the crow flies).
Back to the history books for me, and let us hope that our customers do not share the opinions of Henry Ford, otherwise I have just bought some very expensive doorstops.
