h.Art @Aardvark 2025: Phil Rogers, Potter.
The h.Art exhibition at Aardvark Books is a September fixture, and we love creating a show and exhibiting the work of artists who often live and work locally to us in Herefordshire and the Borders of England and Wales. This year we celebrate the work of Phil Rogers, Welsh studio potter, who died in December 2020.
The h.Art exhibition at Aardvark Books is a September fixture, and we love creating a show and exhibiting the work of artists who often live and work locally to us.
This year we will celebrate the work of Phil Rogers, Welsh studio potter, who lived and created his ceramics in his studio in Rhayader, until his death in December 2020.
An early influence was Bernard Leach, and like him, Rogers' work was to create beauty through utilitarian objects. He took inspiration from Chinese Song Dynasty ceramics and perhaps more significantly, the stoneware of Choson dynasty Korea, to ultimately create his own tradition of solid materials, inspired design and individual character.
He said of his own work: "I am obsessed by making pots ..... that is my life, and that is what keeps me going. It is the constant challenge of wanting to make better pots."
Event starts at 10:00am.
